Bullet Racing Engines was founded by Billy Williamson & Carl Riggen in 2003. Inspiring to race affordably, they took their machinist expertise and applied it to the Briggs & Stratton 5hp Briggs. The flathead paved the way.
It didn't take Billy & Carl long to formulate a successful engine building reputation. In their free time, they manufactured their own inertia dyno at the machine shop where they worked. This allowed them to have accurate comparisons among the engines they were producing. (We still use the same dyno today!)
Located in Cayuga, Indiana, Billy's home track was Bi-State Speedway (Covington, IN). With Billy and Carl's teamwork with the engines along with Billy's success on the track, the Bullet flathead was a well sought item. For a number of years, team Bullet was responsible for nearly 150 engines in the surrounding area.

With the success came long lasting friendships and family. Billy's best friend Steve Edwards soon got involved with building the engines and spending time at the shop. They have been best friends ever since!
In the early 2010's, Bullet Racing started to explore the depths of the new clone engine that was hitting the market. Even though team Bullet gave it their all with the clones, the flathead engine was still where Bullet shined. During this time period, a job change for the better, marriage, and a focus on family slowed down the engine building for Billy. Around 2015, Bullet had stopped doing engines for customers and focused solely on doing engines for family and close friends.

Even though Bullet engines weren't being sent out the door at the overwhelming rate in the early years, team Bullet still remained active at the local short tracks. Billy and his two sons, Dylan Cook and Cory Messick, were still racing pretty heavily. Dylan and Cory started to build the clones and carry the Bullet flag.
Upon graduating from college, starting his career as a CNC machinist, buying a home, and getting married, Cory began taking the clones to the next level. With help from family and friends (including but not limited to) Billy, Steve, Dylan, and the McCormick family, Bullet Racing Engines began to make its resurgence. The spring of 2023 was filled was extensive research and development on the clone engine program. On track results were backing up the new power that was being produced.

In the spring of 2024, all of the engine building tools and equipment were moved to Cory and Cora's home in Homer, IL. From here, Bullet Racing Engines started to promote engines once again. Team Bullet mainly ran at K3 Speedway (Kankakee, IL). 2024 was a great season filled with several wins, a track championship in Clone Medium for Cora, a 2nd place finish in the points standings for Cory in Clone Heavy, and an abundance of support from a new customer base.
We are looking forward to 2025!
